Grieving Dog Dies After His Soldier is Killed in Afghanistan

Theo with Lance Cpl. Liam Tasker

Lance  Cpl. Liam Tasker was a dog handler with the Royal Army Vet. Corps and Theo was his bomb-sniffing springer spaniel mix.  The two soldiers shared an enormous bond, one that was carried to their graves.  On March 1st. Lance Cpl Liam Tasker was killed in a firefight with insurgents in Helmand Province.Theo suffered a fatal seizure hours later at a British Army base, most, as I, believe it was brought on by the stress of his handler being killed.

Military officials won't go so far as to say Theo died of a broken heart-but that may not be far from the truth.

As any animal lover knows, when you lose your dog, it can't be any different or less painful as when they lose us.  I do believe that is part of the devotion that they have for us.

Liam and his solider dog Theo's ashes were flown home on a military Hercules plane and landed at a Royal Air Force base in southwest England.  As the soldier's bodies were driven away to their final resting place they were saluted by a long line of military dog handlers, their dogs at their sides.  The Ministry of Defence said that Theo's ashes would be presented to Liam's family privately.

Liam spent six years as an army  mechanic before joining the military dog unit in 2007.  He felt that he had found his calling.

Liam was said to be a natural with animals. Both Theo and Lance Cpl. Liam Tasker were responsible for finding numerous hidden bombs and thus saving many lives.  There can't be anything much worse than losing one's child, I just hope that it eases one's mind, knowing that these two brave soldiers are resting in peace together.  Perhaps now, they are chasing balls and not bombs, let us hope.

Kristy wrote: To Liam and Theo I'm so sorry that you guys had to suffer and lose your lives at the expense of our safety here in America; but I try to not let one day go unforgotten for your unselfishness and willingness to be placed in the line of fire to defend our country and protect "US" from harm's way. I'm so saddened that you guys are no longer with us but without a doubt - the two of you were meant to be together until the very end...just as it played out. I'm just happy to know that you guys aren't alone inside the PEARLY GATES and are hopefully getting to play with balls and enjoying each other's undying love for one another. GOD BLESS BOTH LIAM AND THEO for their bravery....and to their family...I'm very sorry for your GOODBYE! **CRYING**
